Preying on a dog caused a leopardess to enter a residential area in Ramnagar where she ended up entering a home past Saturday midnight. Acting swiftly, the home owner locked the feline inside and informed the Forest department about it. Ramnagar divisional forest officer Kundan Kumar sent a rescue team which tranquilised the leopardess and safely rescued her before releasing her back in the jungle.

The DFO informed that a leopardess looking to hunt a dog entered the home of Fatehpur village resident Lakshmikant in Kaladhungi area at about 12:30 AM on Sunday. Though the entry of the feline caused panic among the family members, they went out and locked the home from outside with the leopardess inside. On being informed about the incident, a Forest department team reached the home along with a cage and other equipment. The team first opened the door and placed a cage but the big cat did not enter the cage. The personnel then called Corbett tiger reserve veterinarian Dr Dushyant Sharma to the site.

The veterinarian managed to tranquilise the feline after which she was placed in a cage. Dr Sharma along with Kaladhungi veterinary officer Dr Rajiv Kumar jointly conducted a medical examination of the leopardess. The big cat was aged about six to seven years and found to be completely healthy. After the big cat regained consciousness, she was released safely in the jungle far from human habitation. While the locals breathed a sigh of relief, department personnel told them to swiftly inform the department in case of any such incident.
