Light rain provides some relief from heat, more in store today

Very light to light rain coupled with cloudy skies brought down the maximum temperature in various parts of the state on Thursday. The State meteorological centre has forecast the possibility of very light to light rainfall/thunderstorm likely to occur at a few places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts and at isolated places in remaining districts of Uttarakhand on Friday. The surface winds are likely to be strong and gusty during the day time. The meteorological centre has also issued a warning about the possibility of thunderstorm accompanied with hail/lightning likely to occur at isolated places in the state.  Further, squall (50-60 kmph) is likely to occur at isolated places especially in the plains of the State today.

The provisional state capital Dehradun is forecast to experience partly to generally cloudy sky. Rain/thunderstorm accompanied with gusty wind (30-40 kmph) is likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 35 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Friday.

Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at various places in the state on Thursday were 33.2 degrees Celsius and 21.4 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 35.4 degrees Celsius and 20.4 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 26.4 degrees Celsius and 14.4 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar, 26 degrees Celsius and 16.8 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri. Gunji in Pithoragarh district received about three millimetres of rain, Mana in Chamoli district and Gangotri in Uttarkashi district both received about one millimetre of rain on Thursday.
