The Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Nathuawala went up to flames after the lightning struck the facility on late Thursday night. This facility is operated by Feedback Foundation in coordination with the municipal corporation for the disposal of generated waste. According to the counsellor of the ward, Swati Dobhal, the area of the facility is about 2,500 square feet where the garbage collected through the door to door service is recycled and processed to produce organic manure. She said that many items like several pieces of equipment, heavy types of machinery including a garbage picking vehicle were damaged in the fire while manure, recycled materials and some items of clothing got completely burned along with other things.
The officials informed that the fire was very severe but fortunately nobody got injured in the fire. “Since the structure of the facility is mostly made up of iron material, it did not get damaged in the fire and it will be made operational again within the few days”, said the officials.
