Limited to Haridwar, Harish Rawat’s absence pinches Cong in Almora, Nainital-US Nagar LS seats

Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat has become so engrossed in Haridwar Lok Sabha constituency, from where his son Virendra Rawat is making a debut in the big league of electoral politics that his absence is being felt by the Congress party in other constituencies of the State. In Haridwar, the former CM convinced the party high command to give the party ticket to his son and after that he found no time to venture out of the constituency. He has taken the command of the campaign of his son in his own hands and is crisscrossing the 14 Assembly segments of Haridwar.

The former CM is working overtime and with extraordinary zeal despite his advancing age in Haridwar which he had represented in the year 2009.  However his involvement in Haridwar is affecting the prospects of Congress candidates in other four parliamentary constituencies. His presence is being felt more in Almora (SC) constituency from where his protégé and old friend Pradeep Tamta is in the fray.

It is pertinent to mention here Harish Rawat had represented this seat three times in the past. He burst into the national political scenario in the year 1980 when he defeated BJP stalwart Murli Manohar Joshi from Almora constituency. In the year 2009, Almora was made a reserved constituency he shifted to Haridwar. Rawat still commands considerable influence in the constituency. The candidates of Congress party Nainital- Udham Singh  Nagar and Garhwal constituency also want Rawat to campaign in their support but he has so far not been able to come out of Haridwar.
