Link attendance of college principals & teachers to treasury: Rawat

Higher Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the biometric attendance of the principal and teachers of colleges will be linked to the treasury. Further, the meeting of the higher education council will be held at Paithani on November 21. Apart from this, he directed to ensure swift and strict action in case of molestation of female students.

Chairing a review meeting of the Higher Education department here on Sunday, Rawat directed the officials to ensure proper attendance of the students along with the principals and teaching faculty in the colleges and universities. The biometric attendance of the principals, teachers and all other personnel should be linked to the treasury for this purpose.

The minister said that higher education institutions play an important role in the progress of the State and the nation. Stating that all must play their part in the interests of the students, Rawat said that it is vital to maintain discipline and sanctity, adding that teachers and personnel in these institutions must set an example for the students with their conduct and behaviour. Stressing that the government is sensitive towards the safety of female students and women, he said that in case any staff member is found guilty of molesting a female, he will be fired from the job and strict legal action will be initiated against him.

The minister also directed officials to convene the meeting of the Higher Education Council at Pathani on November 21 for deliberations on quality and upliftment in higher education. The officials were also directed to ensure that the academic calendar is fully followed in all the universities and colleges. All the universities should also hold their convocation by November 30, adding that in case of unavoidable situations, the convocation can be deferred latest to December 15. Higher Education director Anju Agrawal, joint director AS Uniyal, assistant director Deepak Kumar Pande and other officials were also present in the review meeting.
