Liquor smuggling ring exposed in Nehru Colony, 3 arrested

The police uncovered an illegal liquor warehouse operating in the Nehru Colony area of Dehradun after the arrest of three persons accused of liquor smuggling. They were allegedly involved in trafficking alcohol from other States to various districts in Uttarakhand, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. The accused were reportedly involved in smuggling liquor from other states and labeling them with Uttarakhand’s official stickers and monograms, thereby evading taxes and causing revenue loss to the Uttarakhand government. Singh said that the police received a tip off about illegal liquor being smuggled in a utility vehicle from Saket Colony in Ajabpur late on Thursday.
Considering this, the police launched a checking campaign and intercepted the vehicle, bearing registration number UK08CB5296 and found 15 cases of illegal liquor. Upon questioning the driver, he reportedly revealed that the liquor cases had been picked up from a house in Saket Colony. Following this lead, the SSP said that the police raided the house, where they encountered two men attempting to flee. Both were apprehended on the spot. The police searched the house and recovered 30 cases of McDowell, 4,340 Royal Stag labels, 3,063 Imperial Blue labels, 420 McDowell’s labels, 100 labels of 100 Pipers, 2,550 labels of Old Monk, 700 UTK labels, 2,625 monograms of Uttarakhand government, two bottles of paint stripper, one hot gun machine and one utility vehicle used for smuggling liquor.
A case was registered against the accused at Nehru Colony Police Station under various sections of the Excise Act and BNS Act. Singh said that the accused revealed during interrogation that they were working for a man named Sahil, who was responsible for buying liquor at low prices from Haryana and Chandigarh and bringing it to Dehradun. “He informed that they used to remove the original stickers and monograms from the bottles and affix Uttarakhand labels, allowing them to sell the liquor illegally in the State. The liquor was usually transported in empty vegetable crates via utility vehicles and sold at higher prices across Dehradun and other districts, generating significant profits.The arrested accused were identified as Faim (20), Ehsaan (25) and Mohsin (32) and all belong to Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh. The prime accused, Sahil, is still at large.
