In latest news from Uttarakhand, the Uttarkashi district administration has banned sale of liquor and tobacco on Monday in view of the Ram Mandir consecration ceremony. Issuing the order, the district magistrate Abhishek Ruhela said that not just consumption but also transportation of liquor and tobacco would come under the ban order. “The order applies to all foreign liquor outlets, warehouses and military canteens located in the district. The day being a historic one, we want the people to celebrate the occasion in a spirit of faith and devotion by keeping away from liquor and smoking,” he said and added that he had instructed the sub-divisional magistrates, police station officers and excise department officers to strictly enforce this order.

The religious fraternity based in Uttarkashi welcomed the order and said that such an order should be enforced in the district on regular basis. Speaking on the matter, a senior Rashtriya Hindu Sangh functionary Thakur Surendra Pal Singh said that Uttarkashi houses the holy confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati. “Such an order is an imperative as it will facilitate a peaceful and happy life for the people inhabiting this district,” he added.
