Live-in relationship registration under UCC aimed at women’s safety: CM

Dhami felicitated in Bareilly for implementing UCC in U’khand for the first time in country

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that deliberate attempts are being made to spread many confusions over the registration of live-in- relationships under the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He said the objective of the State government behind registration of such relationships is to ensure the safety of the girls and to safeguard the rights and future of the children born out of such relationships.
Dhami was participating in a programme organised by Invertis University, Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh) to felicitate him for implementing the UCC in Uttarakhand.
He said that Uttarakhand has become the first State in the country to implement UCC and the Ganga of UCC emanating from the State will ignite a new consciousness in the country and prompt other States to move forward in this direction.
The CM said that the people of Uttarakhand have an important role in ensuring that the historic initiative of UCC is realised. The objective of UCC is to ensure a uniform and justifiable judicial system for all the citizens. He said that UCC has resulted in women empowerment. This law is a strong shield of rights of the women who are waiting for equality for a long period of time, he said.
Dhami said that UCC is not against any religion or sect but is a constitutional measure to bring in a uniformity in civil laws.
The Uttarakhand CM said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi many decisions such as abrogation of article 370 in Kashmir, abolition of Triple Talaq, implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act and construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya have been taken.
Lok Sabha MP Chattrapal Singh Gangwar, minister of state (independent charge) of UP, Arun Kumar, Mayor of Bareilly Umesh Gautam, local MLA Raghvendra Sharma and others attended the programme.
