Construction of middle portion of road pending for 17 years
Local residents began an indefinite period relay protest against the protracted delay in completion of the construction of the Jajal-Shivpuri motor road. The incomplete motor road is causing considerable problems to the locals in the Narendranagar block of Tehri district. The locals stated that construction of a six-kilometre stretch from Jajal and a 10-kilometre stretch from Shivpuri has been completed. However, despite more than a decade having passed, a seven-kilometre stretch of the road in the middle section has been pending due to it passing through forest land. Former district Panchayat member Anil Bhandari said that the construction of the motor road not being completed in a period of 17 years is a cause for serious concern. The residents of about one dozen villages in the Kunjani, Dhyansyu Patti area will benefit from the construction of this motor road, he said. The other protesting locals said that completing the construction of this motor road is vital to resolve the various hardships being faced by the people in the rural areas due to the protracted delay in completion of this project. They said that completion of the construction of this motor road will not only resolve the inconvenience being faced by the locals but also generate new employment opportunities in the area.
