Locals protest after shopkeeper fires round in air during heated argument with youths in Badrinath

A shopkeeper in Badrinath fired a round in the air following an argument with some people on Friday night. The locals closed the Badrinath market for some hours and staged a protest against the incident on Saturday. The protesting locals went to the police station where they demanded strict action against the shopkeeper in question.

According to local sources, some youths from the Lambagarh area had an argument on some issue with shopkeeper Vineet Saini on Friday night. The argument escalated and Saini allegedly fired a round in the air with his licensed gun. On Saturday, the local residents staged a protest in Badrinath and kept the local market closed for about three hours. Raising slogans, the protesters also reached the Badrinath police station where they sought action against the shopkeeper. The Badrinath police station in-charge Lakshmi Prasad Bijalwan said that the shopkeeper had fired a round in the air after an argument with some youths on Friday night. The police have started investigation in the case and strict action will be taken as per the law against the guilty, he added. According to sources, the police are checking the license of the gun used by Saini and also investigating the details of the argument which escalated and resulted in the round being fired in the air.
