There was considerable commotion in Chamba area of Tehri district after a youth from a minority community allegedly attempted to elope with a minor girl on Saturday night. On learning about the incident on Sunday, members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and the local business fraternity took out a rally and kept the market closed in protest. The police have booked the accused youth for molestation.
According to locals, Salar Khan (27) was allegedly trying to elope with a minor girl from her home in Chamba on Saturday night. He reportedly fled from the scene after the girl’s family members came to know about the plan. He was reported to be in touch with the girl through the internet. Members of various organisations and the local business fraternity kept the market closed for about two hours and took out a protest rally in Chamba on Sunday. The Chamba police station in-charge Lakhpat Singh Butola said that a case has been registered against the accused. The accused youth is currently absconding and the police are searching for him, he added.
It will be recalled here that there have been a number of cases in various districts this year wherein males purportedly concealing their religious identity attempted to dupe or elope with females.
