Residents of Joshimath staged a chakka jam under the banner of Joshimath Bachao Sangharsh Samiti on Thursday to protest against delay in government action to deal with the continuing subsidence in the city. All the business establishments remained closed during the protest. The protest ended after the local administration agreed to all the major demands of the protesters. As all the shops in the bazaar remained closed, the tourists arriving here faced inconvenience as they were not able to get even tea and snacks. With the administration closing the Joshimath-Auli ropeway the tourists will not be able to take the ropeway to Auli. Subsidence is being experienced near tower number one of the ropeway since November last year.
