The leader of opposition (LoP) in the Assembly, Yashpal Arya and other leaders addressed many public meetings in support of Congress party candidate Manoj Rawat for Kedarnath Assembly by-election in the Talla Nagpur area of the constituency on Saturday.
Addressing the public, Arya alleged that atrocities are being committed on the weaker sections of society under the BJP rule in the State. He said that the canteens and tea shops used to be the source of employment for local people in Chopta which is so rich in natural beauty that it is called mini Switzerland. Arya said that it is unfortunate that the government razed these shops in the name of an anti-encroachment drive. He said that the government is working in an autocratic manner and using bulldozers on the employment of people. The LoP also attacked the BJP government for rendering a blow to the pride of Kedarnath and its people.
Taking a dig at the BJP candidate Asha Nautiyal for crying on the stage in CM’s public meeting on Saturday, the Congress candidate Manoj Rawat questioned as to where she was when every daughter was crying for Ankita Bhandari and where she was when the shops in Chopta were being demolished. Rawat said that allegations of rape were levelled against various BJP leaders but Nautiyal kept quite even though she is the State president of BJP Mahila Morcha. He alleged that the BJP government is removing people from Chopta as part of a deep rooted conspiracy and it is planning to hand over the area into private hands.
