The leader of opposition (LoP) in State assembly Yashpal Arya has demanded that the State government should convene a special session of the State assembly for the stringent land laws without any delay. He said that the State government should also bring the findings of the Subhash Kumar committee in the public domain. Interacting with The Pioneer Arya said on Monday the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the land laws will be brought in the budget session of the Assembly next year which is too long a time and shows the intent of the State government. He said that a stringent law should be passed by the Assembly after thorough discussion on all aspects.
The LoP said that the huge turnout of people in the Bhoo Kanoon rally in Rishikesh has proved that the people of the State are frustrated and angry at the large-scale purchase of land in the State by outsiders.
He said that the government should also declare the names of the industrialists and business houses that were given lands in the State. Arya said that the strict land laws were implemented by the Congress government under the leadership of ND Tiwari in the year 2003 but the BJP governments made changes in it and rendered it ineffective.
Arya said that the State government is planning to hand over the Ayurvedic and Yunani medicine centre in Mohan near Ramnagar in the private hands.
He said that on one hand the State government is giving land to the industrialists, business houses and outsiders, it is snatching the land of the local people and rendering them homeless in Haldwani, Bajpur and other areas.
