LoP now claims to defend Sanatan Dharma

Tuesday, 16 JULY 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The leader of opposition (LoP) in State Assembly Yashpal Arya has said that the construction of Kedarnath temple in Delhi is against the religious traditions and the customs of the Sanatan dharma.  He said that Kedarnath temple in Rudraprayag district is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and it is not possible to construct any other temple of Kedarnath.

Arya told The Pioneer that by laying the foundation for the temple temple in Delhi and shifting a rock from Kedarnath Dham to the construction site, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has fiddled with the traditions of Kedarnath Dham.

“What was the need for the Kedarnath Dham trust and Uttarakhand government to construct a temple in Delhi after the name of Kedarnath Dham,’’ Arya questioned and added that the episode hurt the faith of crores of followers of Lord Shiva. He said that Kedarnath Dham is the centre of religious faith and spiritual enlightenment and the governments should understand that it is not a subject of exhibition or tourism. Arya said that Kedar dham is one of the five Peeths (seats) as per the tradition of Shaivites and its Rawals are reverently called as Jagat Guru. He added that just like Adi Shankaracharya set up four Maths, there are five Peeths as per the tradition of Shaivism.

Arya said that as per the Puranas, Ravana had also made an attempt to carry the Shivling with him. Instead of constructing a temple in Delhi an attempt should be made to find out those who converted the gold on the walls of Kedarnath into brass, he said.

Arya added that in the ancient scriptures Kedarnath is equated with the Himalayas. The Kedarnath is also called the Jyotirlinga of Satyug. The LoP warned that any plan to undermine the importance of Kedarnath Dham will not be allowed to succeed.
