The decision of the School Education department to start the process of appointment of newly selected Licentiate Teachers (LT) in the schools of the State has made thousands of guest teachers anxious. The Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSSC) had released the merit list of the LT examination on January 10. After the release of the result, the UKSSSC has started the process of verification of the documents of the selected candidates. The Education department will start the process of appointment of the selected candidates after the list is submitted to it by the UKSSSC.
As per the regulations, the department treats the vacancy where the guest teachers are deployed as vacant. This means that the department can terminate the services of 1,554 guest teachers to accommodate the newly selected teachers. Sensing threat to their jobs the guest teachers have become alert and are demanding that the selected permanent teachers should be appointed on such vacant seats where the guest teachers are not working. They point out that they are working with dedication on a meagre salary and the students taught by them are giving good results in the board examinations. It is pertinent to mention here that the Education department appointed guest teachers in 2016 on vacant posts of LTs in government schools of the State.
The former president of the guest teachers association Kailash Koranga said that the State government should formulate a proper policy for the guest teachers.
