In light of the persistent demand from the public, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved and implemented the proposal to provide the Mahalakshmi kit to mothers of newborn sons. The said decision was made during the recent cabinet meeting.
Sharing the said information, the Women Empowerment and Child Empowerment (WECD) minister Rekha Arya said that the Mahalakshmi kit, which was earlier given only on the birth of daughters, will now also be provided at the birth of sons (for the first two deliveries). Consequently, the Mahalakshmi kit will now be available for both daughters and sons. She said that she had earlier mentioned that the department will soon provide the Mahalakshmi kit on the birth of sons as well and that the department has been working consistently towards this goal, as evidenced by the issued mandate.
Arya further said there has been a persistent request to extend the said benefit on the birth of sons as well. To address this, the government has now mandated the provision of Mahalakshmi kits for the first two deliveries regardless of gender of the newborn, she added.
