Saturday, 12 November 2022 | PNS | HARIDWAR
Following the confrontation between two factions of the Shri Panchayati Nirmal Akhada here on Thursday, the Akhada’s Shri Mahant Gyandev has said that he fears for his life. He said that ascetics of the Akhada are scared considering the manner in which members of a faction from Punjab had stromed into the Akhada premises in Haridwar on Thursday and had to be removed by the police after considerable effort.
Mahant Gyandev who also played an active part in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, said that on Thursday, some persons entered the Akhada premises on the pretext of immersing the ashes of an ascetic in the Ganga and then tried to kidnap him. He said that he demands from the chief minister, director general of police and other officials concerned that security should be provided for him. He further averred that those wanting to take possession of the Akhada properties want to remove him from their path. He said, “Apart from working shoulder-to-shoulder with Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, my association with Prime Minister Narendra Modi goes back many years to when he was an organisational worker in Gujarat. I know that if PM Modi learns about the incident, the authorities will be stirred up. The people who entered the Akhada on Thursday wanted to take me hostage. I also demand from the Union Home minister that security should be provided to me. If anything happens to me, then all the top officials will be responsible for it,” he said.
Kothari Jaswinder Singh of Shri Panchayati Nirmal Akhada said that Shri Mahant Gyandev has been on the post since 1993. Some people want to occupy the property of the Akhada but are not connected with the Akhada and are misleading the authorities, he claimed. It is pertinent to mention here that the dispute between two factions of the Akhada is pending in the court.
