Mahara asks CM to observe Raj Dharma & fire minister

Tuesday, 09 May 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami should rise above the party politics and should tighten the rein on the members of his cabinet and party leaders. Advising the CM to follow the ‘Raj Dharma’ Mahara said that the CM should remove the minister involved in the violent altercation on the road in Rishikesh.

Launching an attack on the State government, Mahara said that Dhami has shielded the minister many times in the past also. He said that no action was taken against the minister in the Vidhan Sabha backdoor appointments case. He said that in the recent Rishikesh case in which the minister is seen thrashing a person on the road the police should have taken a cognisance but it was forced to act and register a case on the minister after a public outrage. The PCC chief said that the role of the police and its impartial stand in the case would be under public scrutiny.  He said that the Uttarakhand police have always adopted a dilly- dally stand in the cases involving the BJP leaders and efforts are made to shield the leaders associated with BJP.  Mahara said that the name of the VIP involved in the Ankita Bhandari murder case is yet to be exposed since a BJP leader was involved in the case. In the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSSC) and Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) recruitment scams the names of the politicians involved too are yet to be disclosed. The name of the BJP leaders cropped up in all the recruitment cases but an effort was always made to shield them, he said. The PCC president claimed that the role of the police in the cases associated with atrocities on women is also not satisfactory.

Continuing his diatribe on the role of the police, Mahara said that the frontal organisations of BJP are fanning communal hatred and an attempt is being made to disturb the communal harmony but the police have failed to act properly in such cases. On the other hand the police have acted unilaterally when the Congress workers raised the issues of public interest and registered false cases on Congress leaders.
