Mahara demands bypoll counting under CCTV camera surveillance

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has demanded that the counting of votes for the Manglaur and Badrinath Vidhan Sabha by-election should be done under surveillance of the CCTV cameras. He said that the election commission should also ban the presence of other officers other than election officers inside the counting centres.
The vice president organisation of Uttarakhand Congress Mathura Dutt Joshi said that the PCC president has written a letter to the chief election commissioner of India and chief electoral officer, Uttarakhand in this regard.
In the letter Mahara said that the Congress had complained many times in the past about misuse of official machinery during the election campaign and on the day of voting in Manglaur and Badrinath. He said that on the day of voting an incident of firing and violence in presence of Police personnel was reported in Libberhedi of Manglaur assembly. Mahara said that miscreants belonging to other States attacked voters in booth number 53 and 54 and fired bullets due to which many workers of the Congress party got injured. Expressing concern on the possibility of misuse of official machinery on the counting day as well, the PCC president said that special measures should be taken by the EC in Manglaur and Badrinath on July 13.
