Maharaaz rejects speculation, says no plan to vacate seat
The Chaubattakhal MLA Satpal Maharaaz has denied the reports circulating in social media platforms that he would vacate his Chaubattakhal assembly seat for the new chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat. Rawat is at present Member of Parliament (MP) from Garhwal parliamentary constituency. He would now have to resign from his Lok Sabha seat and get elected to the state assembly.
It is worth mentioning here that Maharaaz who had shifted from Congress to BJP in the year 2014 was offered a ticket from Chaubattakhal assembly constituency in the year 2017 by the BJP from where Rawat was the sitting MLA. After swearing in of Tirath Singh Rawat as tenth CM of Uttarakhand it was being speculated in reports on social media that Maharaaz would vacate his seat in his favour and in turn the BJP would field Maharaaz from Garhwal Lok Sabha seat vacated by Rawat.
However Maharaaz has made it clear that he would not leave his assembly seat, adding that he has been receiving the support of the people from the constituency. In such a situation the BJP may have to find a safe seat for Rawat.
