Tourism, Public Works, Irrigation and Culture minister Satpal Maharaj laid the foundation for development works amounting to Rs 14.77 crore for the Nainital district on Sunday. He also declared that the Nanda Devi Mahotsav will be granted State fair status.
After unveiling the foundation stones for 10 development works at a programme in Nainital, the minister also went to the 121st Nanda Mahotsav where he paid his obeisance to the goddesses Nanda and Sunanda. On the demand of the people, the minister also declared the Nanda Mahotsav a State fair.
Meanwhile various religious and cultural programmes were held throughout the day in the fair being organised by the Shri Ram Sewak Sabha. A hawan for world peace, Kanya Pooja and a Bhandara were held on Sunday. During the Panch Arti held later in the evening, the Union minister of State Ajay Bhatt, local MLA Sarita Arya and Nainital district magistrate Vandana Singh were also present along with a large number of devotees.
