Tourism minister Satpal Maharaj declared Tiwada village in Tehri district as a tourism village on Saturday. Visiting a homestay built with government assistance in the village, the minister appreciated that the facility is being managed by women. He said that along with traditional food, the women should also be trained in cooking western dishes. He also stressed on the need for maximising the publicity of the international year of millets being observed in 2023.
The minister said that there are 15 registered homestays in this village with 10 persons having received government assistance and eight more having received assistance for motor boats. Various development works will be undertaken in the area which will generate employment opportunities and also make the area a world class destination, the minister said. The Pratapnagar MLA Vikram Singh Negi said that Tiwada is a hub of homestays in the region. Referring to the tourism potential of the area, he also spoke of the various developments sought for the region.
