Maharaj directs strict action against overcharging

A few days after the chief secretary directed strict action including arrest to check overcharging on the Char Dham Yatra routes, the State’s Tourism and Culture minister Satpal Maharaj has taken cognisance of complaints regarding overcharging and directed officials to take strict action against such persons. Maharaj took cognisance of complaints regarding overcharging in helicopter service, taxi, hotel and food along with other essential commodities on the Yatra circuit. He directed the Chamoli district magistrate Himanshu Khurana and Rudraprayag district magistrate Mayur Dixit to take strict action against such people. He said that those overcharging persons undertaking the Char Dham Yatra should be identified and strict legal action should be taken against them. He further said that feed and solar heaters to provide hot water should be arranged for the mules and horses on the Yatra route. The officials were also directed to update the system so that challenges faced during the pilgrimage are tackled effectively. Addressing the pilgrims, he said that Covid-19 had affected the lungs of many. Considering this, people should get checked by a doctor and undertake the pilgrimage only if cleared by the doctor.
