The Rural Works, Tourism, Culture and Public Works minister Satpal Maharaj said that the Rural Works Department (RWD) should work with a vision for the future to check migration from the mountains. Along with effective communication with the public at the local level, their requirements should be understood and it should be ascertained whether government schemes are indeed beneficial for them.
The minister said this in a meeting at the RWD headquarters before the start of training of 25 newly appointed assistant engineers. Informing them about the State government’s vision, departmental schemes and its functioning, he said that this was a journey of dedication, challenges and important responsibilities for them. They should do what is right for the development of the State. “There is a need for development of rural areas, balance in regional development and reducing the division between urban and rural areas. The development of basic infrastructure will be achieved not with just the construction of roads and bridges but by also connecting the people with opportunities, resources and services. Your varied responsibilities as assistant engineers also include ensuring high quality of construction and observance of safety standards,” Maharaj said.
