Maharaj tells PWD to remain in alert mode during monsoon

The Public Works Department (PWD) minister Satpal Maharaj has directed the officers of the department to conduct inspections of the places where chances of water logging are more during monsoon. He also told the department to keep a sufficient number of earth movers in the mountainous areas during the rainy season. He directed that the culverts and drains should be cleaned before the onset of monsoon. The minister gave the orders while chairing a review meeting of PWD in Dehradun on Tuesday.
He said that the officers should always remain available on the phone and resolve the complaints of people promptly. Maharaj said that the PWD and irrigation departments should work in coordination to organise seminars on road and dam safety.
The minister said that nodal officers and machines have been deployed at required places in view of the monsoon. He said that a total of 273 works worth Rs 759.19 crore were approved for road safety and out of them 72 have been completed while 104 works are in progress.
The minister said that 276 roads were transferred from PMGSY to PWD under the PMGSY one time maintenance scheme in the State. He said that maintenance work on 136 roads is complete while work in 121 roads is still in progress.
A sum of Rs 178.67 crore has so far been spent on PMGSY one time maintenance scheme, he informed.
PWD secretary Pankaj Pandey, Engineer in Chief Deepak Yadav and other officers attended the meeting.
