Maharaj unveils foundation for irrigation projects worth Rs 29.71 crore
Stresses on need to adopt hydroponics & micro irrigation techniques
Irrigation minister Satpal Maharaj unveiled the foundation of various irrigation department works amounting in total of Rs 29.71 crore in Sahaspur and Vikasnagar areas here on Friday. The minister also inaugurated a minor irrigation sub division office built at a cost of Rs 50.91 lakh at Dakpatthar in Vikasnagar.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Maharaj said that irrigation and minor irrigation schemes worth crores of rupees were being launched on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He said that there should be arrangements for displaying models of hydroponic agricultural technique in all minor irrigation sub divisional offices in the state. This will enable the farmers to benefit from this technique. He said, “Generally we flood the whole farm with water for irrigation which also causes a lot of water to go waste. In this time when conservation of water is vital, means like sprinkler system and drip irrigation are being used in various nations of the world. Our farmers should also use such techniques. I am a supporter of new techniques so my attempt will be that the South Korean technology of rubber dams is used in the dams constructed in Uttarakhand,” he said.
The minister also unveiled the foundation stones for multi-crore departmental works in Sahaspur and Vikasnagar areas during the programme held in the Dakpatthar sub divisional office. Vikasnagar MLA Munna Singh Chauhan, Sahaspur MLA Sahdev Singh Pundeer along with other local public representatives and departmental officials were also present on the occasion.
Earlier, Maharaj also participated in the Prime Minister’s Atal Samvad interaction with farmers at the Sahaspur block office. Addressing farmers and party workers on the occasion he said that by transferring the installment of Rs 18,000 crore into the bank accounts of nine crore farmers’ families, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had yet again given a proof of being a genuine well wisher of the farmers. What PM Modi had said in his address to the farmers will be called as his commitment to farmers, added Maharaj.
