The State PWD and Tourism minister Satpal Maharaj called on the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari at the latter’s official residence in New Delhi on Wednesday and requested him to ensure that a ramp is built in Lipulekh in Pithoragarh district to facilitate the pilgrims having a clear glimpse of the sacred Mount Kailash.

Maharaj apprised the Union minister of the immense spiritual tourism potential hidden in Old Lipulekh Pass. He informed Gadkari that the motor road stretching 200 meters ahead of the point from where Mount Kailash is visible is rough due to which people face great difficulties in reaching there. He suggested a ramp be built there to facilitate pilgrims reaching that point smoothly to have a distinct darshan of the holy mountain.

Maharaj further urged the Union minister to see to it that adequate number of toilets and milestones is built along the routes from Gunji to Om Parvat and Gunji to Adi Kailash for the convenience of the pilgrims whose number is surging, post-the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Adi Kailash pilgrimage last year.
