Mahila Congress holds massive protest in Doon

Demanding justice to the family of Ankita Bhandari and other issues, the Mahila Congress held a massive protest here on Thursday. Led by the president of Uttarakhand Mahila Congress Jyoti Rautela and top leadership of Uttarakhand Congress, a large number of activists assembled at the office of State Congress. They started a march to the residence of the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The protesters were stopped by the police from moving forward near Hathibadkala. Speaking on the occasion, Rautela said that the Congress party is consistently demanding that a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe should be ordered in the Ankita Bhandari murder case but the government is paying no heed to it. She said that the name of the VIP involved in the Ankita Bhandari murder case has not been made public yet. Rautela said that dengue has taken epidemic proportions due to the pathetic attitude of the State government.
The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said that the Ankita Bhandari murder case has maligned the image of Uttarakhand. He demanded that capital punishment should be given to the culprits so that no one dares to repeat such a heinous crime again. Mahara said that the law and order situation in the State has got completely derailed and crime against women has increased under a government which has given the slogan ‘ Beti bachao beti padhao’. Mahara said that after the murder of Ankita, the government destroyed the evidence in order to save the culprits. He said that the government is shying away from ordering CBI inquiry in order to save the culprits.
The leader of opposition (LoP) Yashpal Arya said that the Congress party has always worked for the uplifting of the nation. He said that those in power now are trying to disturb communal harmony but the Congress under the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will resist such forces.
Speaking on the occasion, the former chief minister Harish Rawat said that the law and order situation is in shambles in the State and women are not safe. He said that the government is harping about development but it is not visible anywhere. Rawat said that roads are replete with potholes in capital Dehradun.
The deputy leader of Congress legislature party in assembly Bhuwan Kapdi said that the BJP government is vindictive on opposition leaders. Former PCC president Ganesh Godiyal said that the real character and face of the BJP has got exposed and the people of the country will give a fitting reply to the ruling party in the Lok Sabha elections.
