The workers of Mahila Congress held a protest against spiralling prices and burned the effigy of the BJP government in Dehradun on Tuesday. The protestors were led by the State president of the Mahila Congress Jyoti Rautela.
Addressing the party workers, Rautela said that the general public is reeling under the onslaught of price rise unleashed by the BJP government. She said that it is an irony that while the price of crude oil is continuing to decrease, the prices of petrol and diesel are increasing. She said that in the last nine years more than Rs 30 lakh crore have been siphoned out from the pockets of the public through the sale of petroleum products alone.
The cooking gas cylinder which was available at Rs 410 in the year 2014 now costs Rs 1,150. She added that the prices of everything are going beyond the reach of the general public and the vegetables and pulses are vanishing from the plate of the poor. Rautela said that the decision of the BJP government to impose GST on the hotel rooms has affected the tourism industry which is the backbone of the State. The GST is now imposed in the ICU bed of hospitals. The vice president of Mahila Congress Asha Manorama Sharma and a large number of workers attended the protest.
