The workers of Mahila Congress held a protest at the residence of cabinet minister Dhan Singh Rawat on Tuesday against the arbitrary fees hike by the private schools, Loni Urban multi-state Credit and thrift Cooperative society (LUCC) scam and adulteration in the buckwheat flour.
The workers led by the president of State Mahila Congress Jyoti Rautela marched to the residence of the minister in the afternoon by holding placards and shouting slogans.
Speaking on the occasion, Rautela said that the multi crore LUCC scam has tarnished the image of Uttarakhand.
She said that the investors had trusted the society because the society was registered with the Ministry of Agriculture of the government of India. Rautela warned that if the public’s money is not returned, the Mahila Congress will start an agitation.
She said that many people in Dehradun fell ill after consuming the adulterated buckwheat flour on Monday and such serious cases have happened many times in the past. It appears that the government has not learnt any lesson from these cases.
Condemning the fee hike by private schools, the Congress leader said that not only have the schools increased the fees, but they are also taking commission from the booksellers by increasing the prices of stationery and textbooks from their favourite booksellers. She said that it seems that the government and administration is providing support to the private schools and the booksellers.
Senior vice president of Mahila Congress Asha Manorama Sharma, general secretary Nidhi Negi and others took part in the protest.
