Following the announcement of Sarita Arya as the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Nainital Assembly constituency, the Nainital Mahila Morcha which had earlier warned of strong opposition to this has now welcomed the decision.
The announcement of BJP candidates from 59 Assembly constituencies on Thursday elicited some opposition from ticket contenders who were rejected in various constituencies. Voices of dissent have arising in Karnprayag, Yamunotri, Devprayag and Tharali constituencies. Senior party leaders said that they will talk to the dissatisfied party workers and resolve the issues.
In Nainital, the Mahila Morcha had not attended a small event held to welcome Sarita Arya to Nainital on Wednesday when she returned for the first time to the city after shifting from the Congress to the BJP. The Nainital Mahila Morcha of the BJP had said that it will strongly oppose the decision to field Arya as the party candidate from Nainital. However, after the declaration of Arya as the party candidate, the Mahila Morcha Nainital head Deepika Binwal said that they had voiced objections in the past but the decision to field Arya had been taken by the party’s central leadership. Respecting the decision of the party’s central leadership, the Mahila Morcha is not opposing Arya candidature anymore. Along with other party workers, the Mahila Morcha members will also strive to ensure the party’s victory from Nainital to enable the formation of the BJP government in Uttarakhand once again, she added.
