A four-day special campaign will be undertaken in Dehradun district from Tuesday to check the spread of the disease in the district. This decision was taken in a meeting chaired by the Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar to review the status of dengue in the State on Monday. It was ascertained that the number of dengue cases are more in Dehradun district compared to other districts. Kumar sought feedback from the Dehradun district magistrate Sonika on the situation and aspects including areas emerging as dengue hotspots. It was then decided that all departments will jointly undertake a major four-day campaign in Dehradun to check the spread of the disease.
During the meeting, medical officers and Asha workers were given the task of going door to door to raise awareness. The medical officers, Asha workers and teams of other departments will conduct the door to door dengue awareness campaign and destroy mosquito larvae if these are found at the site. Addressing the officials, Kumar directed that all departments must work together to check the dengue outbreak. Employees of the Health department, Municipal Corporation of Dehradun, Education department, Public Works Department, Peyjal Nigam and other departments will have to work together against dengue, he said. Penalties should be imposed on people and institutions responsible in case of sites where mosquito larvae are found again in accumulated water despite earlier warning. This is important to protect people from dengue and to prevent the disease from assuming epidemic proportions, the Health secretary stressed.
Kumar also appealed to all voluntary organisations, social organisations and residential committees in the district to come forward and participate in the campaign against dengue. All the committees should work to raise public awareness in their areas and destroy mosquito larvae in case these are found in their area or inform the teams of the Health department and municipal corporation. The secretary further said that in order to prevent dengue from assuming epidemic proportions, the local bodies should prepare a micro plan and undertake fogging according to a roster so that fogging and sanitation campaign is conducted in every area. Dengue hotspots in urban and rural areas should be identified and steps to control dengue should be undertaken in such areas consistently, the Health secretary added.
