In a major crackdown, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) Dehradun division on Monday challaned 70 vehicles and seized 15 for violations, including using unauthorised hooters, tinted glasses, over-speeding and driving sans valid documents.
According to the officials, the special enforcement drive was conducted under the direction of the assistant regional transport officer (Enforcement) Ratnakar Singh in various parts of the city against vehicles violating Motor Vehicle rules.
As part of the campaign, intensive checking was carried out at GMS Road, Shimla Bypass, Haridwar Bypass, ISBT and the Asharodi area. Along with the ARTO enforcement team, the Interceptor Team and Asharodi Flying Squad also conducted checking and enforcement action at different locations.
During the drive, action was taken specifically against the use of unauthorised hooters, black film contrary to prescribed norms, driving without valid documents, fitness and permit-related violations, unauthorised use and over-speeding, the officials said.
Officials further informed that one vehicle was found driving in a reckless manner along the stretch from Glass Farm, Shimla Bypass to Gorakhpur Chowk. “It was also using an unauthorised hooter. During on-the-spot questioning and inspection, the driver prima facie appeared to be a minor,” a member of the teams said.
When the enforcement team signalled the vehicle to stop, the driver cut in front of the interceptor and sped into a lane. After the vehicle was stopped, the driver went inside his house and did not hand over the keys. “The enforcement team had to wait for nearly one and a half hours. After repeated persuasion, the driver came out and submitted the keys,” the officer stated.
Verification of the driver’s age, vehicle documents and related violations was underway and further action would as per the Motor Vehicles Act, said the officers.
The regional transport officer (Enforcement), Dehradun Division, Anita Chamola said that using unauthorised hooters/sirens and operating vehicles with black film contrary to prescribed standards are serious violations. “Strict action will be taken against such vehicles,” she said.
She appealed to vehicle owners and drivers to fully comply with the motor vehicle rules and added that such special enforcement drives would continue to ensure road safety.
