People across the State celebrated Makar Sankranti with enthusiasm and religious fervour on Tuesday. Religious programmes including Sundarkand recitation and Hawan were held in various temples in the Dehradun district. Additionally, it is believed that taking a holy dip in the Ganga river is auspicious for oneself and one’s family on this occasion. A large crowd was also witnessed in Haridwar where multitudes thronged to bathe in the holy river on Makar Sankranti.

Regarding the celebration of Makar Sankranti, local resident Brijesh Mehta said that on this occasion, he distributed Khichdi Prasad to beggars, as donating grains and food is considered auspicious on this day. He also organised a Hawan in the morning for peace and blessings for his family.

“Makar Sankranti is regarded as the beginning of good days in all aspects. Therefore, many people find it auspicious to buy new things on this day. Considering this, I bought a new vehicle and distributed warm clothes to the beggars,” said another local resident Wasu Chaturvedi.

Notably, many residents were seen distributing Khichdi Prasad to people outside temples, shops and other public places in Dehradun on Tuesday.
