The Dehradun municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar ordered the senior municipal veterinary officer Dr DC Tiwari to make proper arrangements to provide proper medical treatment to stray cattle in the Kanji House. He stated this during a surprise inspection of Kanji House on Thursday. He directed Tiwari to make proper arrangements to make an adequate amount of food and water available for the cattle caught within the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD). Kumar also asked the executive engineer of the corporation to construct a fodder store in the Kanji House soon. He also instructed him to install a borewell for the proper arrangement of water in Kanji House which will be helpful in the summer. He also directed him to install new sheds in the courtyard of the Kanji House by replacing dilapidated old sheds there.
The commissioner also observed that the blankets used to cover cattle are old and torn. Considering this, he directed Tiwari to replace old blankets besides buying new mats to protect cattle from cold in the current chilling winter. He also instructed him to make arrangements for a bonfire in the Kanji House to give the cattle some relief from the cold while keeping the safety of the premises in consideration.
Kumar directed him to take all possible measures to properly take care of stray cattle, especially calves and lactating cows. Every cattle brought to Kanji House or any MCD shelter must be provided with everything from proper food to proper medical treatment. The MCD may give the management of Kanji House to an agency in future but it will continuously monitor everything to ensure cattle brought here from across the city are getting the right treatment, Kumar added.
