The body of a tiger was found in the core zone of the Jhirna Range of the Jim Corbett National Park late on Wednesday. The patrol team found the body during the patrolling of the Jhirna beat of the range around 5 PM on Wednesday, the director of the Corbett National Park Dheeraj Pandey said.
He informed that a panel of veterinary officers was constituted in the Jhirna range on Thursday to check the tiger’s body. The panel included three senior veterinary officers who informed the administration that prima facie, it appears that the tiger died naturally due to its old age. Its age was about 10-12 years.
Pandey further informed that the team took samples of the body on Thursday and sent them to the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) at Izzatnagar in Bareilly for testing as per the procedure. The administration is expected to get the test report in about two months. The tiger’s body was disposed of on Thursday under the supervision of senior officials as per the standards of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), he added.
