Main accused injured in firing, nabbed seven months after assaulting constable

The Haridwar police have arrested a wanted criminal absconding after assaulting a policeman. The accused was absconding for seven months and arrested following an encounter with the police.The miscreant is accused of injuring the eye of a police constable with a slingshot. In the cross firing between the miscreants, one of the miscreants was shot in the leg and sent to the district hospital for treatment.Director general of police Ashok Kumar has appreciated the work of Haridwar police.
In Kotwali Ranipur area, during the month of May, miscreants attacked a police constable patrolling in the Shivalik Nagar area at night. During the assault, the constable Pritpal was attacked with a slingshot causing him eye injury. In this case, the police had already arrested two accused who were involved in the incident, but till now the police could not arrest the main accused, Deshraj. A reward of Rs 50,000 had been announced on his arrest. According to official sources, when the police tried to stop two miscreants near the canal track in Bahadarabad police station area on Friday morning, they fired at the police party and fled into the forest. After this the forces of all the police stations including the senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh surrounded the forest.Deshraj was hit by two bullets in the cross firing, after which the police arrested him while one of his accomplices managed to escape. At present, the injured Deshraj has been sent to the district hospital for treatment.
SSP Ajai Singh said that at about 8:30 AM on Friday, the policemen were conducting routine checking on the canal track in Bahadarabad. Meanwhile, when the police tried to stop the two suspects, they fled towards the forest. When the policemen ran after both the miscreants, they fired in the air. After this the policemen informed the top officials. The officers reached the spot and surrounded the area where the duo had gone. The miscreants opened fire on the policemen who also retaliated. Later, police investigations revealed that some miscreants had come to Ranipur area about six months ago and had attacked the policemen patrolling during the night with a slingshot. The accused had come to Haridwar on Friday with the intention of carrying out some crime. The SSP said that the miscreant absconding after the encounter is being searched for by the police. The arrested accused is a resident of Madhya Pradesh and belongs to the Pardhi gang.
