Dehradun police have arrested a man who had allegedly raped a woman’s dead body after beating her to death. The grotesque incident took place in the Hathibadkala area of the city late on Sunday night in his room near a public toilet where the accused worked as well, said the superintendent of police (City) Sarita Dobhal. In a Press conference on Tuesday, she revealed that the accused named Rajesh (37) has claimed that he met the woman outside a liquor shop near the railway station on Sunday around 9 PM when she was having alcohol. They started talking after which both of them came to his room where the duo consumed alcohol again. “The accused stated that after drinking, he tried to force himself on the woman but she resisted. She bit him in self defence which made him furious and he hit her head on the wall repeatedly. He then battered her to death with a mini gas cylinder. After the body fell on the floor, he reportedly raped the body. He claimed that after he came back to his senses, he realised that the woman was dead. He then shifted her body to a nearby dumpster around 3 AM on Monday to make it look like an accident to the authorities,” said Dobhal. The SP said that a sanitation worker of the municipal corporation found the body of the victim near a dumpster near the Centrio Mall early on Monday morning and informed the police. A police team reached the location and sent the body for post mortem. The police also started the investigation and the victim was identified as Gajri, a native of Bijnor who was living in Dehradun for nearly seven years. Her family members who live in the Nalapani area told the police that she used to go out of her house from time to time without informing them and used to come back after a long time. The teams also started analysing footage from CCTV cameras and found the footage of a man dragging the body of the woman to the dumpster. The police started searching for the man and reached his room near the public toilet. He had some scratches on his face and body and the police detained him after finding him suspicious. Dobhal said that when the police checked his room, they found blood splatter on the wall, the blood-soaked clothes of the accused and the mini cylinder with blood stains. The police questioned him and he confessed to killing and raping the victim. He was arrested under section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence), section 302 (offence of murder) and section 376 (offence of rape) of the Indian Penal Code, added the SP.
