Man arrested for attacking Rishikesh journalist

The police arrested an accused on Monday on charges of assaulting a journalist Yogesh Dimri and his associates on Sunday in the Indiranagar area of Rishikesh, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. He informed that the police received information that Dimri was undergoing treatment at AIIMS Rishikesh due to injuries sustained in the altercation.
The police contacted him and his acquaintances to gather complete information about the incident. They were asked to submit a formal complaint so that the police can take effective action against the accused involved in the incident. In this regard, a complainant Sandeep Bhandari, a resident of Muni Ki Reti submitted a written complaint at Kotwali Rishikesh on Monday morning. He stated that Sunil ‘Ganja’ had assaulted and attacked him and his accomplices with a baseball bat, which resulted in serious injuries to Dimri.
The SSP said that based on the written complaint, a case was registered against Sunil under section 109 (1)/352 of Bharatiy Nyay Sanhita (BNS). The police later arrested the accused. The police are conducting a detailed investigation into all aspects of the incident. If any other individuals are found to be involved, strict action will be taken against them as well, Singh said. He also added that the police have also started preparing a record of people involved in liquor smuggling in the Rishikesh area to take strict action against them soon.
