Police arrested a man on charges of brutally murdering his mother in Haridwar on Wednesday. The Haridwar senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobhal said that the accused Sawan hit his mother to death using a shovel and a stick in Dhanpura area under the Pathri police station area of the district on Tuesday. He informed that the accused is allegedly a drug addict with a history of criminal activities. He had been allegedly pressurising his mother to transfer the ownership of their house to his name for the past several days. He asked her to transfer the house on his name on Tuesday again. When his mother refused and scolded him for his past criminal behaviour, he lost control and allegedly attacked her with a shovel and a stick, killing her on the spot. After committing the heinous act, he hid her body in the bathroom and fled the scene, the SSP claimed. He stated that the police managed to track down and arrest the accused within hours of the crime after getting information of the murder. The police also recovered the murder weapons, including the shovel and stick used in the attack. He will be soon presented in court, he added.
