Man arrested from Gujarat for duping Rishikesh resident of Rs 1.39 crore

The cyber crime unit of the Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) arrested a man from Gujarat on charges of duping a Rishikesh resident of over Rs 1.39 crore. The man was working with a gang to dupe people in the name of investment in shares and stocks to earn quick and massive profits, the STF senior superintendent of police Ayush Agrawal said. He said that a Rishikesh resident registered a complaint in the STF’s cyber crime police station in Dehradun a few days ago stating that some unknown men approached him through calls and messages on WhatsApp and introduced themselves as representatives from prominent trading companies. They allegedly lured the complainant to invest money in the stock and share market and sent him various links. They also made him open an account for trading and lured him to invest a total of Rs 1,39,78,000 through various transactions on different bank accounts. The SSP said that the cyber crime team started the investigation after registering an FIR as per the complaint under sections 420, 120 B of the Indian Penal Code and 66 D of the Information Technology Act. He said that the cyber crime team started the investigation and gathered all the information and evidence related to the fraud from the complainant. The team found during the investigation that one of the accused belongs to Surat in Gujarat. A team was sent there to gather more information about him and finally nabbed him late on Monday. He was brought to Dehradun on Tuesday. The SSP said that the accused is a 47-year-old man, a resident of Surat, who has been allegedly involved in multiple cyber frauds along with his gang. The accused’s gang had also allegedly created fake websites of various share market and stock trading companies to present themselves as trustworthy to the victims. The STF will take further action after interrogating the accused, he added.
