Man arrested with 100 kilogrammes of banned meat

The police arrested a man named Firoz (28) with 100 kilogrammes of banned meat from Sahaspur’s Rampur area of Dehradun in the wee hours of Monday. The accused was transporting the banned meat of buffalo in a vehicle without any valid license or bill late on Sunday night when the police arrested him after checking, said the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh. He said that he has directed all police stations in-charges of respective areas to act against illegal smuggling of banned meat across the district.
Following the orders, the police are conducting regular checks in sensitive areas of the district to act against culprits. He said that during a similar checking late on Sunday, the police found a man carrying 100 kilogrammes of banned meat.
The police seized the meat and arrested the accused. The police buried the meat in the ground as per the rule and registered a case against the accused under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, said SSP. He also informed that the police also arrested a man named Vikas Verma (35) who was illegally transporting a cow and a calf in a loader late at night in the Raipur area. The police have registered a case against him under the Uttarakhand Cow Protection Act 2007, added Singh.
