The police on Sunday arrested a man named Irshad (32) with 150 kilogrammes of banned meat from Sahaspur’s Rampur area of Dehradun district. The accused was transporting buffalo meat in a car without any valid license or bill, said the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh.
He said that the police got a complaint about the illegal slaughtering of animals to smuggle the banned meat in Sahaspur’s Rampur area considering which, the police conducted intensive vehicle checking. The police during checking found a car carrying two men and 150 kilogrammes of buffalo meat.
The police seized the meat and arrested one of the accused Irshad while the other escaped. The police have registered a case under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Singh said that the recovered banned meat was buried in the ground for safety reasons. The police are looking for wanted accused, he added.
