A man died and a woman sustained serious injuries after the car they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge about 10 kilometres ahead of Kalsi in Dehradun district on Sunday morning. The officials informed that the accident occurred on the route between Vikasnagar and Kanwa when the driver of the car (UK 07BQ 8198) lost control, causing it to plummet about 800 metres down from the main road. The rescue team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) from the Dakpatthar post, was dispatched to the site with all necessary rescue equipment following an alert received from the Dehradun district control room.
The officials said that upon reaching the location, the team discovered that the woman, identified as Sushila Devi, had managed to climb up to the road in an injured state. She was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. However, the male occupant of the vehicle, identified as Maya Singh Panwar, was found deceased at the scene.
The officials said that the SDRF team conducted a challenging operation to recover his body from the steep gorge, which was then handed over to the district police for further procedures. They informed that the injured and the deceased were residents of Kanwa village in Kalsi tehsil. While investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing, initial reports suggest the vehicle became uncontrollable on the hilly terrain, leading to the mishap, as per the officials.
