A 24- year- old man was found dead in a ditch near Dehradun Zoo on Mussoorie Road in the wee hours of Sunday. The officials said that the Rajpur police station received a call from the control room 112 in the early hours of Sunday that a man had allegedly fallen into a 50 metre deep ditch near the Dehradun Zoo. The man was riding a scooty and had reportedly hit a divider near a drain due to which he fell into the ditch.
The officials said that the police along with the rescue team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the spot after getting the information. They started the search operation and retrieved the body of the man. The police took him to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay (Coronation) Hospital via 108 Ambulance where the doctors declared him dead. The police then started the process to identify the deceased on Sunday morning. He was identified as Rapten Darzi (24), a resident of the Premnagar area.
The officials said that it was revealed during the investigation that the deceased had gone to visit Mussoorie on his scooty and on his return, he probably fell into the ditch after hitting the divider near the Dehradun Zoo. They said that prima facie, it appears that the man died due to severe head injury caused by falling into the ditch.
The police have sent the body for post mortem and are investigating the case. The police will take action according to the postmortem report and evidence gathered during the investigation, the officials added.
