The police arrested a man who had allegedly kidnapped a two-year-old boy in Dehradun and sold him in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh. He is also reportedly involved in child trafficking of several other children, as per Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh. The case was registered on January 2, 2025, after a woman named Reena, a resident of Yamuna Colony, Dehradun, filed a complaint stating that her two sons, Akash (5) and Vikas (2), had been kidnapped. Based on her complaint, the police registered a case under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Singh said that during the investigation, it was found that the complainant’s cousin, Rakesh, had taken her and her children to Bijnor under false pretenses. There, he, along with his associate Rahul and Rahul’s daughter Tania, allegedly sold Vikas to a couple named Priyanka and Senti in Dhampur for Rs two lakh. The SSP said that upon learning that Reena had approached the police, the accused abandoned the elder child, Akash, near his house in Yamuna Colony on the same day.
The police had earlier arrested four accused—Rakesh, Tania, Priyanka and Senti from Amroha and Dhampur. Singh said that their interrogation led to the identification of Rahul (31) as another key suspect. He had been absconding since the incident, frequently changing locations to evade arrest. After gathering intelligence through surveillance and informants, the police arrested Rahul in the Cantonment area on Thursday. Rahul is a resident of Moradabad district in Uttar Pradesh. The police are looking into his alleged involvement in other cases of child trafficking, Singh added.
