Man posing as Bishnoi gang member arrested from Agra for extortion

The Dehradun police arrested an accused from Agra who extorted money from people by posing as a member of the notorious Bishnoi gang. In a Press conference here on Sunday, superintendent of police (Rural) Kamlesh Upadhyay said that the police received a complaint in the Kalsi police station that an unknown man had demanded Rs one lakh from the complainant in the past two months by claiming to being a member of the Bishnoi gang. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar formed a team supervised by Upadhyay and circle officer of Vikasnagar Sandeep Negi. The SP informed that the police started the investigation by analysing the mobile number through which the accused contacted the complainant. The mobile number was found to be registered in the name of a 30-year-old man named Manoj, whose current location was found to be in Rakabganj area of Agra. The SP said that the police team was sent to Agra to gather information about the accused and finally nabbed him on Saturday on the basis of the evidence found against him. She said that the accused disclosed in the interrogation that he received some information about the said complainant being a rich contractor. The accused Manoj started threatening him to extort money in the name of Bishnoi Gang and had recovered a total of Rs one lakh in two months, informed the SP. She also added that the police have frozen the bank account of Manoj and are also investigating his claims of being a part of the Bishnoi gang. She informed that the accused was brought to Dehradun on transit demand from the local court of Agra on Sunday and will soon be presented in Dehradun court for judicial remand, said Upadhyay.
