A man was swept away to his death in a drain in Dehradun late on Wednesday. The officials said that the Dehradun city control room alerted the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) late on Wednesday about a man who had been swept away in a drain near Nauka Hills resort in Mothrowala. The SDRF team, led by head constable Jitendra Singh and equipped with rescue gear, reached the spot to carry out a search operation. Upon arrival, the SDRF team conducted a search of the drain for a considerable time but due to darkness, they were unable to locate the man the same night. The SDRF team resumed their search on Thursday morning along the riverbanks of the Suswa river and found the body of the missing man hours later. The officials informed that the deceased was identified as Ramprasad Badoni (65), a resident of Dondawala Nauka. The body was recovered and handed over to the district police for further proceedings, they added. Meanwhile, the police also appealed to people to avoid driving on the side of the road, especially two-wheelers, during heavy rain as drains overflow during rain in Dehradun. They appealed to the people to stay in the middle of the road with their vehicle and not proceed if they see flooded roads that can sweep them away. Anyone stuck at isolated places can call the police to help during emergency situations, they added.
