A 48-year-old man died after he reportedly lost his balance and fell into the Alaknanda river in Tehri on Tuesday. The officials said that the man was purportedly trying to catch fish in the river but lost balance in the process and fell into it.

The officials said that some locals informed the police on Tuesday that Deepu Das, a local of Keertinagar in Tehri, drowned in the river where he had gone to purportedly catch fish. Following this,  the police called the rescue team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to rescue the man. A team led by the head constable of SDRF, HC Bisht retrieved the body with the help of local people and handed it over to the police.

The officials said that though it appears the man fell into the river after losing balance, the police will be able to ascertain the cause after the postmortem.
